fluxland, no way was it an order from Stern, there's not even a recap or highlight game on a semi regular basis on free to air TV here in Australia. Sure we can watch it on cable tv, but we get minimal coverage even on that. The only reason we don't produce better basketball players is because most of the talented players switch to Football or Rubgy in their late teens' where there's alot more money. At least the Aussie national team assembled for the olympics would kick the Canadian national team's arse this year :D

Btw, I actually agree the raptors could have made a better pick. Jawai is too raw.

Yeah.. the reason TJ didn't have to say anything is because he and TJ go back to the Bucks. Very little needed to be said. They were on the same page, whereas Jose had to explain WTF it is he is doing out there.. high dribbling on top of the key, getting burned non stop at the defensive end etc. Seriously, just make Jose player/coach.

tough to tell if the guy is nba material, but he did show some big dunks, a little range and some defense. he looks like raw talent, which is better explained as potential. maybe he'll be our starting C when Oneil becomes UFA

^^^ Somebody here is committing bball hara kiri and in full view. JC has proven himself as an effective PG on whom the coach can depend .. for 'help'.

Did anybody notice this happening last season? During a lull in the play, like during foul shooting, Jose would go to talk to Sam, and Jose would do all the talking while Sam would be nodding in agreement with Jose ... as opposed to TJ being called to the bench and Sam would be giving him instructions while TJ just stood there silent, looking to get away and nodding in agreement with Sam. This happened many a time ... and it was very very telling about the difference between the two PGs ...LOL

You draw your own conclusions ... I have ... as did Sam and BC ...!!!

Sam!!!!

I couldn't agree more with what will hopefully not be your last post. My sentiments exactly.. perhaps you missed my posts from the previous day. Trading TJ was an enormous step back for this team. It's sad that forums and blogs from overseas can see this, yet fans that live in the city cannot. Maybe it's because overseas they know what a fraud Jose is. Its going to be a rude awakening in RaptorLand this year.

The moves this team has made (thus far) prior to the start of the season have nothing to do with building a championship team. And if they do - they are baby steps, while the rest of the NBA seems to be moving at light speed.

Agree with Tau as well. I don't have my optimistic glasses on, nor am I a qualified talent evaluator, but based on those clips and the fact this guy has been playing for 4 years I cannot understand why the team made that pick. They could have found an Euro with approximately 1000 times more skill and experience. Someone in the NBDL maybe. But nooo.. we're going to pick a guy from the darkest corner of the planet basketball wise. I refuse to believe that this is the best we could have done.

Make no mistake about it (thanks for watering my seed of thought for a while now FUK) - this was simply an order from Stern to BC in order to increase viewing and number of fans in AUS. Moneymoneymoney... MONEY!!

P.S. Wait.. Canada has a national team? Whoknew!

If Jahidi White could have actually kept the weight down, he would have been very productive.

Take a look at pictures of the guy in New York on RealGM. He's not a fatty.

And why Jerome James is a poor centre has very little to do with his talent and EVERYTHING to do with his mind.

Go ahead, pooh-pooh him. Sure, the Aussies aren't great world beaters but they are the champions in Asia (the championships go to New Zealand or Australia like every year) and understand the game a little.

And yes, I mentioned his footwork was below par already. Give him a chance to actually play first, huh? You guys have the patience of a four year old off of ritalin.

I predict that Nathan Jawai will not only make the Raptor team, he will be a huge defensive star as well as an offensive warhorse on the boards. The guy is a diamond in the rough and will pleasantly surprise everybody. He sounds well spoken, of clear thought and a focused athlete. He doesn't have an 'attitude' and is reasonable and committed .. what more do you want?!

Move over JO ...LOL

I think he's a big body we can use but there have been plenty of those in the NBA which haven't done much. Frankly speaking, the guy reminds me a little of Jerome James and Jahidi White but with a softer touch. Remember, you're seeing him play against Aussie nobody's, those pretty little jumpers that work over there have a high chance of being sent to the first row in the NBA. He'll see shot-contests in the NBA that might make him crap in his pants.

I'm not writing off the guy, just saying we should've drafted an athletic 3 that could play D instead.

Arse, make time for it your mental health demands it lol.
Moro, I may have been quick to pan JW but observe the opposition, also keep in mind that you are looking at highlights selected to showcase NJ. I would slot the level of play at good CIAU ball at best. Nathan does look nimble and powerfull with ok hands but his move at the hoop would be rejected 9 out of 10 times in the Association. Hope I'm wrong but I just can't see him being ready to contribute in the next 3 or 4 years.

I think I'll make this my final post. Cue applause.

I can't believe that Bryan Colangelo wasted the 41st pick in what will certainly go down as the DEEPEST DRAFT OF ALL TIME on the first native Australian drafted to the NBA and a guy who started playing basketball 4 years ago. I refuse to allow natural human emotions like kindness or my quickly diminishing sense of humour and fun lure me into liking this pick for a couple of months, maybe more if the kid works out. I am appalled that we chose someone who managed to pick up the game quickly while attending the Australian Institute of Sport. I have no idea what that place is but I am sure it is not a CHAMPIONSHIP ORGANIZATION. I mean look at the Aussie swim team, they train there and they're crap. I am enraged by the fact that we have chosen an athletic freak of nature who, with the right attitude and coaching, could develop into a quality big man in the NBA after 2-3 years. Well, maybe I don't have to worry about the right coaching.

I am equally enraged that we have traded TJ Ford for a big man who is generally (but not universally) regarded as a game-changing defensive presence. We don't need interior defence WE NEED CDR. I am aghast that Bryan Colangelo and MLSE has been allowed to get away with this obvious fraud on the Toronto sports blogosphere. I insist that we spend the summer and most of the fall holding Bryan Colangelo's feet to the fire. In the meantime, I am sure the championship-level coaching squad of the Raptors will figure out how to combine the talents of CB4 and JO to maximal effect, ONLY TO BE THWARTED BY THE EVIL BRYAN COLANGELO.

I demand that everyone be fired and that we return to the lottery next year (wait, I might get that wish anyway. Hope the knees are feeling good Jermaine)

Goodnight and good luck

PS I'm thinking I'll go watch Team Canada play NZ Friday. I look forward to seeing Flux and FAQ helping Khandor hold the "this team is not a gold medal contender" banner. Will you guys bring the bag of puppies to drown at halftime or should I?
