Sagna signing; Drogba for Henry; Reyes, Reyes go away

Posted by Arsenalist on July 1, 2007

It looks like we’re pretty close to getting Bakari Sagna from Auxerre, the Frenchman’s pretty keen on wearing the Arsenal red and really really really wants to play in England. According to Auxerre, it’s entirely up to Arsenal now and a reasonable bid will get the job done. This probably won’t happen until Arsene Wenger comes back from vacation. A right back isn’t the most immediate of our needs, Eboue and Hoyte have done a commendable job and aren’t glaring weaknesses so the signing isn’t anything to pump your fist about but at least we’re in the market.

Didier Drogba has some reservations about returning to Chelsea and an Arsenal link is a distant dream but if there’s one man that can probably replace Henry without anybody noticing a difference, it’s him. Italy and AC Milan is where the competition for his services will come from. Milan have kept an open door for Shevchenko but it looks like the two sides aren’t going to agree on fees, just to continue that train of thought, how do you think Shevchenko would fit at Arsenal? There’s also this article which pointed out that Samuel Eto’o might join Arsenal for £20 million, don’t get your hopes up, its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. And besides, he already has Henry there so he’s probably giggling and prancing around like a little school girl.

There’s renewed interest from Real Madrid about keeping Jose Antonio Reyes stay put, one thing we know is that Arsenal don’t want him and he doesn’t want Arsenal. A permanent transfer is in the Gunners’ best interest and hopefully this is resolved by the end of the week and Reyes can continue enjoying those awesome Spanish beaches. According to the ArseBlogger, we’re about £7 million apart in assessing the value of Reyes.

Here’s the unbelievable quote of the day, it comes from £16 million scum signing Darren ‘just got’ Bent:

“Everyone wants to play at the top level and Tottenham have showed in the last couple of years that they are one of the best teams in Europe, so it’s the perfect place for me to continue my development”

One of the best teams in Europe? Since when can you call yourself that and not even qualify for the Champions League? Scum will stay scum. £27 million is what Liverpool will pay for Fernando Torres, this will obviously get every Gooner thinking about the chump change of £16 million that we got for Henry. The only logical explanation that I can think of in the disparity of fees is that Torres is 23 years old, thats it. There’s no guarantees on how good or great he might be in England, I think the price tag is way too high and Benitez is a little too optimistic about the potential of the Spaniard. But looking at the bright side, if he is sold for that much money maybe Atletico Madrid can finally afford Reyes and make a decent offer ending that mess.

Finally this Tevez story which says that  “Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants West Ham’s Argentinian star to replace Thierry Henry”.  This sounds like Carlos Tevez is AW’s first choice to replace Henry which means Wenger values Tevez more than Eto’o, Anelka, Babel or Pederson.  Believe that if you want.

Those Spanish beaches look pretty good, but nothing compared to our London ones :|

Bakari Sagna is already better than Hoyte and will conceivably oust Eboue. Eboue has good and bad weeks, he’s just had enough good ones so nobody pays attention to the bad ones. He’s not a weakness but is something we can improve upon.

Chelsea will not do business with Arsenal so out goes the Shevchenko idea, not sure I want him either. He’s been a failure in England.

IMHO Eto’o > Tevez > Babel > Anelka > Pederson so I’d snatch him if I had the chance but I highly doubt we’ll be able to afford him. He also doesn’t want to leave Barca.

yea i tink Darren Bent is talking craps, loads of craps.
I oso think that we do not need another right back cause we got Eboue who i think is a good player and he can improve

I pray for the day arsene spend £20+million for a striker i’ve heard of…neeeever going to happen. Still, i’m quietly optimistic for this season.
